Steven M. Bagan, M.D. received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1976. He then did his specialty training in Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He has had a private practice in Fargo since 1980, and has been affiliated with Dakota Eye Institute since 1999. Dr. Bagan's surgical practice is in refractive surgery and general ophthalmology, but he has always had special interests in diseases of the anterior eye, cataracts, glaucoma, corneal diseases.

Dr. Bagan annually goes overseas to perform volunteer surgery, and has performed and taught surgery in the Philippines, Nigeria, India, Peru, Guyana, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and other countries.

Dr. Bagan is one of a few refractive surgeons who is also a cornea transplant surgeon, providing him with an extensive background in all aspects of diseases and complications of the cornea. He was the first surgeon in the region to perform radial keratotomy back in the mid-80's.

Dr. Bagan has had laser surgery done on himself. This gives him a unique perspective on how to treat you and any anxieties you may have about the procedure.

Dr. Bagan has performed thousands of laser refractive surgeries using a variety of lasers and microkeratomes since 1998. His broad experience in many types of corneal surgery, and his careful approach, provides you with a comfortable feeling of competence.
